10 Tips For Longer, Healthier Hair.

For todays post I've put together a little list of my top 10 tips for longer, healthier hair. These are the things I do for my hair, and I can honestly say it's in the best condition it ever has been. It's now super long too, which I'm so pleased about! I had my hair cut around shoulder length in March and absolutely hated it! My hair is now half way down my back!

I've also tried to include tips which doesn't involve using a hair product or spending money, after all we all want longer healthier hair the easiest way possible..

Enjoy!

1 - Avoid fully drying your hair when you can, if I'm not going anywhere, I half dry it so it's kind of dry.. but not quite, doing this means you're not constantly applying heat to the bits of your hair that's already dry! As we all know, excess heat kills your hair!

2 - Get your hair cut once every 4-6 weeks, I get my ends cut once every 5 weeks, however you can do what's right for you|your hair. Getting your ends cut this often might seem like you're chopping off all of your hair, but it honestly makes it grow quicker and longer. The longer you leave your hair between cuts, the dryer the ends will become, resulting in them splitting. This happened to me, I left my hair for over a year without getting the ends cut because I wanted it as long as possible, and where I left it so long my split ends were so bad I needed the majority of my hair cut off, about 5-6 inches. For someone who loves long hair this made me really sad :( but I learnt from it!

3 - An obvious one, use heat protection, and say goodbye to dry ends! I use TRESemme heat defence styling spray

4 - Once you've finished drying your hair, go over it with your hairdryer on the cool setting, this seals in all the goodness that your hair needs, and obviously takes away the heat from your hair a lot quicker, which we know is bad for it!

5 - Brush your hair as often as possible! I'm guilty of this one, I have naturally curly hair so brushing it is pretty much a no go for me, so if I'm honest I rarely do this one, but I should! Brushing your hair disturbs your hairs natural oils allllll the way down into the root, making your hair shinier, and grow faster. Try not to brush your hair when it's wet, I brush mine before I get in the shower, your hair is weaker when it's wet, so it's more likely to break!

6 - Use a deep conditioner, I use a hair mask, once a week, usually on a Sunday, so I know that it gets a good treatment after a hard weeks work. I use an Argan Oil hydrating hair mask. psstttt, It's seriously amazing and its only £1?!

7 - Drink more water, again.. I don't really do this one either, oopsie! Drinking water stops the dryness!

8 - Don't wash your hair too often, doing so rids your hair of its natural oils, which not only will lengthen the growing process (no pun intended), but will result in super dry unhealthy hair! I wash mine once every 3 days.

9 - Buy hair bands without rips in, or little decals. The amount of times I've bought hair bands from primark which have an annoying little slit in them, they literally pull out a stupid amount of hair, and it hurts!!

10 - Style your hair in sections - When straightening mine I do it in sections, this ensures you don't go over the same bit of hair 2748382 times, and it doesn't sizzle off like the girl curling her hair in that video! Poor girl.

I always keep the conditioners from my home hair dye boxes, they are seriously amazing!

So there we have it, I hope you enjoyed learning how I look after my hair!

Do you have any tips?

  7. This post is so helpful! I have been trying to grow my hair for years but it did not grow an inch until I started trimming it every 6 weeks - it goes to show how much that helps because my hair has actually grown longer than my extensions! I really really should get myself a hair mask though I've never tried one!
